Note from the Curator of Military History, NC Museum of History (received 09/05/2001):
Mr. Bolch, I ran across your web site while "surfing" at home last evening.
I also have a relative listed on the Confederate monument in the National
Cemetery at Philadelphia--James O'Neal (although they have it misspelled
O'Neil), Company H, 21st Regiment North Carolina Troops.  He was wounded the
evening of July 2, 1863, during the assault by Hoke's Brigade on the
backside of Cemetery Hill.  Taken prisoner, he died in the hospital in
Chester, PA, in September 1863.  I have been to Gettysburg on several
occasions and walked the area he was wounded, but have not made it yet to
the Philadelphia cemetery.  I understand he is buried in a mass grave there.
We have a Civil War exhibit here at the NC Museum of History.  I hope you
will visit if you have not yet had the opportunity.  Regards, Tom
